Welcome to DSJIE Online

Welcome to DSJIE Online. The Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education (DSJIE) strives to provide exceptional service to authors by publishing high quality articles in a timely manner, and providing constructive feedback in a responsive and transparent manner throughout the review cycle. To achieve this, both new and returning authors are strongly encouraged to review the DSJIE Editorial Statement to ensure that their manuscripts fit with the mission of the journal. Please note that DSJIE will consider the following types of articles:

  • Teaching Briefs that describe classroom innovations used to teach specific concepts or problems
  • Conceptual Research that examines contemporary or emerging issues, or proposes new educational approaches
  • Empirical Research that provides new insights relevant to educational practice

DSJIE does not publish cases studies designed for classroom use. To reduce the risk of avoidable delays in the manuscript processing process, authors should also ensure that their submissions meet all DSJIE submission requirements described below.

Submission Process

Manuscript Guidelines

Prior to submission, authors should consult the DSJIE Submission and Style Requirements to ensure that their manuscript conforms. Manuscripts that do not conform will be returned to the author and/or delay processing of the manuscript. All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors are strongly encouraged to have manuscripts carefully edited prior to submission. Manuscripts that are poorly written, organized, and otherwise difficult to follow are in general viewed negatively by editors and reviewers.

At the time of submission, authors will be required to certify that

  • The manuscript has not been previously submitted to DSJIE for review.
  • The manuscript is not currently under review at another journal nor will be submitted for review by another journal while under review at DSJIE.
  • None of the contents of the manuscript have been copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication by another journal.
  • Appropriate citations and/or attributions for the work of others have been given.
  • All working papers, prior drafts, and/or final versions of submitted manuscripts that are posted on websites will be taken down during the review process.

Plagiarism and Copyright

Authors are expected to observe high ethical standards when making submissions to DSJIE. In particular, they are strongly encouraged to read Wiley-Blackwell’s policies with regard to Publication Ethics prior to making a submission. In particular, section 7.1 states:
"Journal editors and readers have a right to expect that submitted work is the author's own, that it has not been plagiarized (i.e. taken from other authors without permission, if permission is required) and that copyright has not been breached (for example, if figures or tables are reproduced)."

"Many journals require authors to declare that the work reported is their own and that they are the copyright owner (or else have obtained the copyright owner's permission). This is enforced further by the Wiley-Blackwell Exclusive License Form, the OnlineOpen Form, or the Copyright Assignment form, one of which must be submitted before publication in any Wiley-Blackwell journal. This form requires signature from the corresponding author to warrant that the article is an original work, has not been published before and is not being considered for publication elsewhere in its final form either in printed or electronic form."

Wiley-Blackwell offers a flowchart that recommends how journals should address issues of suspected plagiarism. DSJIE takes all accusations of plagiarism and other ethical violations seriously and will act upon them accordingly.

Online Submission

All submissions, whether new or revisions, are to be made electronically using the Manuscript Central system. Once a manuscript has been submitted, all aspects of the review process as well as communication with the editor will be managed within this system.

Review Process
Each manuscript submitted to the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education will be reviewed using the following process:
  1. An initial screening by the Editor to determine the suitability of the article for the journal and whether it has the potential to make a significant contribution. Articles that do not meet either of these criteria will be rejected immediately and returned to the author.
  2. Articles that pass the initial screening are assigned to an Associate Editor (AE) based on their functional and methodological content. The AE will  assign the manuscript to at least two reviewers using a double blind process.
  3. The AE will independently review and/or summarize the comments of the reviewers, and make a recommendation to the editor whether to accept the manuscript, require a minor or major revision, or reject the manuscript.
  4. The editor will review all comments regarding the manuscript and make a final decision.

Authors should in general expect to receive a decision from the editor within three months of a submission along with comments submitted by the reviewers and AE. To monitor the status of a submission at any time, authors can log in to Manuscript Central and visit the Author center.

In the event revisions are requested and the author undertakes to submit a revised manuscript, the same process as above will be used. Revisions will in general be processed by the same AE and reviewers that processed the original submission. This however cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that the Editor reserves the right to deviate from the above procedures when the situation warrants and as it is deemed appropriate.

Comitment to Review
By submitting a mansucript to DSJIE, authors make an implicit commitment to serving as a reviewer for other manuscripts submitted to the journal.
